FINANCIAL AID- INVEST IN YOURSELF

At Lincoln College Online, a division of Lincoln College of Technology, we think everyone who really wants to go to college should be able to go. So we do everything we can to help you get the financial assistance you’re entitled to. An online college education is a true investment in your future success and the future success of your family – one of the best you’ll ever make, and as such you shouldn’t expect to get a free ride. Almost all our students pay for some portion of their online education, whether through student loan programs or school payment plans.

This is not something you’ll need to figure out all on your own though – our Financial Aid Advisors play an enormous and very important role in your enrollment process, helping you determine what aid you qualify for and how to best fund your educational and career goals. We urge every student to apply for Title IV Federal Financial Aid – even if you think you earn too much to qualify for financial assistance – you just may be pleasantly surprised.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE is available to Lincoln College Online students and comes in three major forms – grants, loans and veterans’ benefits.

Grants – As a result of Lincoln’s standing as a nationally accredited institution, our students qualify for Title IV Federal Financial Aid, which includes Pell Grants. These grants from the federal government are designed to help you pay for your online education and degree. They are not loans; you do not have to pay them back. To apply for a Pell Grant, you must fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which we’ll explain in more detail.

Federal Student Loans – Several types of student loans are available to Lincoln students:

> Stafford Loans are loans from the federal government that must be paid back. Just as with federal grants, students must complete and submit a FAFSA form in order to qualify and apply for these loan programs. Stafford loans come in two categories:

o Subsidized Stafford Loans are interest-free as long as you’re enrolled at Lincoln. You don’t start paying them back until six months after you’ve graduated or left school.

o Unsubsidized Stafford Loans accrue interest while you’re enrolled. Again, you start paying them back six months after you’ve graduated or left school.

~ Parent Plus Loans may be available to you and your parents if you are classified as a dependent student (dependent on your parents). Your Lincoln Financial Aid Advisor will walk you through the steps required to determine whether you are a dependent or independent student.

Alternative Loans – If you do not qualify for a federal loan program, such as a Stafford Loan, or if you do but require additional funding assistance, your Financial Aid Advisor can help you apply for a student loan program from an alternative source.

Veterans’ Benefits – If you’re a veteran, your experienced Financial Aid Advisor will help you apply for educational benefits from the Veterans Administration. This is money that’s paid directly to you every month to help you pay for college online.

There is also a wide variety of scholarships available from private sources. Finding them and applying for them will take some work on your part, but your Lincoln Financial Aid Advisor can help to point you in the right direction to get started.
