Eson Avent earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and her BA in English Literature from Fordham University. She has worked in Corporate Communications for a Fortune 500 Research and Development company and also a leading home inspection franchise.

 

Mrs. Avent has taught Creative Writing, Composition, and Literature courses at a number of colleges and universities. Her fiction and narrative nonfiction has been published in various literary journals, and she's earned a New Jersey Council on the Arts Writing Fellowship, the David B. Saunders award in Creative Nonfiction, and a Pushcart Prize nomination.

Shaun Beaty received his BA in Social Science/Education from Colorado State University and his M.Ed with an emphasis in technology from Lesley University in Cambridge Mass. He is currently in the final stages of obtaining his Doctorate degree in Educational Technology Management.

 

Currently, Shaun is the Associate Director for The Institute for Learning and Teaching (http://tilt.colostate.edu) at Colorado State University where he designs and develops courses. In addition to designing and developing courses, he also maintains the internal learning management system using ColdFusion Technology as well as designs and develops the department's website.

 

Besides designing and developing higher education courses, Shaun also teaches a variety of online courses including: Introduction to Multimedia, Web Design, Advance Web Design, Server Scripting Basics, Computer Applications, Introduction to HTML and Beginning ColdFusion.

 

Shaun's hobbies include: mountain biking, playing golf, snowboarding, training for triathlons, studying, playing with his chocolate lab "Fudge", and spending quality time in the beautiful Rocky Mountains with his family.

 

Name:  Kelly Bryant

Kelly Bryant has worked in the field of healthcare for the past eleven years. She is currently a dental assistant for a pediatric dentist and is an instructor for courses in Healthcare Administration, Medical Terminology, Healthy Living, Nutrition, Human Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Coding & Billing. Kelly has served in various healthcare roles such as Billing/Collections Supervisor for Apria Healthcare, Manager, Project Coordinator, Child Development Coordinator and Sr. Early Intervention Specialist for Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. Kelly received both her Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

 

Kelly’s current professional and civic affiliations include: serving as March of Dimes Program Services committee member, Tennessee School Health Coalition Secretary, Milan/Medina Relay for Life Committee member and Luminary Chair, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences member, National Association for the Education of Young Children member, Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children member, and the Rural Health Association of Tennessee Conference Planning Committee Member. Kelly is a 2003 graduate of the Gibson County Adult Leadership Program and a 2005 graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program.

 

 

Name:  Dr. Cynthia Collins

Professor Collins is originally from South Florida. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology (in those days, called Zoology) and her Master of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. She then began her first position in both research and clinical work at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She worked for an NIH-funded Clinical Research Center. Her interests began to focus on oncology and gastrointestinal illnesses. After several years in nutrition-related work, she returned to the University of Tennessee and completed her doctorate in Experimental Psychology.

 

Some hobbies and extra-curricular activities your professor enjoys are tennis, yoga, the beach, lots of family time, reading, poetry and more. Please feel free to share your aspirations and ideas with Dr. Collins; she will hope to use her experiences to help guide you in finding your future career. Currently Dr. Collins teaches at Lincoln College of Technology and Florida Culinary Institute, both Psychology, Sociology and Nutrition classes, works at the Wellington Regional Medical Center with medical/surgical patients and at several Cancer Centers with a variety of cancer patients. She also has a private practice with office hours two days a week for nutrition clients.

 

For fun Professor Collins cycles (10 mile stints), plays tennis and does yoga. All this mixed in with time for a very big family, all of whom live throughout the state of Florida! Please be sure to let Professor Collins know your special interests and your plans for your future career.

 

Name:  Mary Kay Driscoll

Mary Kay Driscoll earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management at the State University of New York’s Institute of Technology in Utica, NY. She continued her studies at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA, earning her Master of Business Administration degree in Organizational Development and Human Resources. Ms. Driscoll has led major leadership and transformation initiatives nationwide and is a former Director of Health Information Management at various health care organizations, where she coordinated large scale data conversion projects.

 

Ms. Driscoll has served as an Executive Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Project Coordinator and Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) Hospital Information Management Executive Committee Chairperson. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), holds professional certifications in medical billing, human resources and business analysis and is currently pursuing additional certifications in medical coding and billing.

 

Ms. Driscoll is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Pennsylvania State Health Information Management Association (PAHIMA), and American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), American Academy or Professional Coders (AAPC). She has been published in a number of national Health Information Management publications on a variety of topics including management, human resources, performance improvement and medical coding and compliance issues. Prior to joining the Lincoln team, Ms. Driscoll served as adjunct instructor and professional tutor at Keystone College, Penn State University, and Marywood University. When not working or spending time with her daughter Abigail, she enjoys jazz dance, racquetball, and other fitness pursuits.

 

Name:  Shelia Hamilton

Sheila Hamilton earned her Master of Science degree in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Computer Science from Mary Washington College. Ms. Hamilton has been a Scientist with the United States Navy for ten years, during which time she managed an Environmental Sampling Quality Assurance Laboratory, tested candidate decontaminants for efficacy and served as the Biotechnology Laboratory Manager. In addition to her work in the biological sciences, Ms. Hamilton has written programming code using C, C++, Ada 95 and Fortran.

 

Outside of her work and studies, Ms. Hamilton enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and with her dogs, Daisy and Kai. She calls her family her “most prized possession” and feels extremely blessed to have them in her life.

Phyllis Hilt earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Post University, Waterbury CT and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of New Haven in New Haven CT. Phyllis also has a RHIA certification from AHIMA. As the Program Director for the Health Information Technology Program at LCNE she oversees all curricula for the HIT Courses. Since 2000, all HIT graduates who sat for the RHIT certification examination offered by AHIMA have passed.

 

Ms. Hilt created the current HIA program that is now offered online at LCNE. She also teaches in the health information program. Ms. Hilt is the author of three of the HIA courses currently in the HIA Program of study.

 

Ms. Hilt was born in Waterbury CT. She and her husband, Wayne, reside in Haddam Neck CT. She enjoys antiquing and is crafted in loom weaving and basket weaving. Ms. Hilt is a member of AHIMA and the Connecticut Component State Association of AHIMA.

Dr. Dena Kota earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mary Washington College and a doctorate in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She currently works for the Department of Defense as a Toxicologist and Quality Assurance Officer. Dr. Kota has also taught Human Anatomy and Physiology courses at Germanna Community College. She currently teaches Environmental Science and Pharmacology courses for Lincoln College Online.

 

Name:  Jennifer Lamé

Jennifer Lamé holds an Associate degree in Health Information, a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and a Master's degree in Public Health. She is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Ms. Lamé has been teaching courses in the health field for eight years, and has taught both online and in the classroom, face to face. Before she started teaching, she worked as an inpatient coder and a coding and health information management consultant for over 10 years. Ms. Lamé feels that her career has afforded her “the best of both worlds,” as she is loves teaching and truly enjoys work in the world of health information management as well. Ms. Lamé currently teaches a variety of Medical Coding and Billing courses for the college in addition to health-related general education courses, such as Nutrition.
When not working, Ms. Lamé enjoys life in Idaho with her husband, their three children and two dogs. Also, she loves living in a state that offers such a great variety of outdoor activities.

 

Name:  Dr. Michael Meyer, DO, CCS, CPC, CPCI, AHIMA Certified ICD-10 CM & PCS Trainer

Dr. Meyer is a Senior Healthcare Coding Consultant, who is a triple certified coder. He is licensed through the American Academy of Professional coders as a Professional Medical Coding Curriculum instructor (PMCC). He is a program director over the medical insurance, billing and coding program and Healthcare Administration program He also is a curriculum developer for online programs, as well as a HIM program instructor for other Universities. He is a field auditor and has performed audit work for a variety of healthcare organizations, including hospital, physician practices and insurance companies. Prior to his consulting, coding and career as an educator, Dr. Meyer was board certified in family practice and actively treated patients for sixteen years in the Orlando area and in Naples, Florida.

 

Dr. Meyer is a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA, and a Certified Physician Coder (CPC) and a licensed Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC) instructor through the AAPC. Recently certified as an ICD-10 CM and PSC Instructor trainer as well from AHIMA.
Professional memberships include the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

 

Name:  Renee Midgett

Renee earned her Bachelor of Science with a Health Information Management concentration from the University of Tennessee in Memphis Tennessee and received her Registered Health Information Management Administrator Credentials from AHIMA in 2000. Following this, she earned a Master of Information Systems Management from University of Phoenix. She has worked in several exciting positions including Coding validation, Documentation Specialist, System Analyst, and Health Information Management Chief. She has worked in all types of environments including the VA Medical Center, The Hawaii Department of Health and Methodist Le Bonheur Health Care Center.

 

Renee has also been a member of many committees, selected for several developmental innovation projects and has won national recognition for several projects. Renee has been a key team member of The Joint Commission Readiness team for the VA, A key member of the Hawaii State Department of Health System Surveillance System, Dept. of Defense, VA Hawaii sharing agreement Conference member, site developer for the Hawaii Journal of Public Health and also sole developer for the VA Connecticut intranet training website. Some awards of note include Director’s commendation for TJC readiness and VeHU (VA e-Health University) Poster award for innovative strategy. Renee now works full-Time for Veterans Administration as a Clinical Application Manager and works with Lincoln College of New England as a course developer and adjunct instructor. As a Clinical Application Manager, Renee manages configuration, manipulation and user training for the VA CPRS electronic medical record. For LCNE she instructs HIM courses and is currently developing curriculum for the RHIA program.

 

Renee was born in Washington D.C. but calls the United States her hometown. She has lived and worked in many areas of the country. As a member of a warrior family, Renee, her husband, her 4 children and two dogs find their home wherever the Navy sends them. Her husband is on active duty for the U.S. Navy serving as a Senior Chief for the Submarine Fleet. She and her husband, Roland, along with their family have recently moved to Clinton Connecticut. During her precious free time, Renee enjoys SCUBA diving, Photography and Graphic Design.

 

Name:  Sarah Sailor

Sarah Sailor holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Evansville. She has been working in education for many years—and for more than a decade in online education. She primarily teaches Writing and Literature courses, which she thoroughly enjoys. Over the years she has worked in both traditional and online classrooms; she has taught and tutored students in K-12 and at the college level. In addition to working directly with students, Sarah has also worked with eCollege, Lincoln College’s online course platform, as a Senior Consultant and Regional Manager. She has also worked as a Director of Marketing for a local non-profit, as a freelance writer and as a Director of Educational Ministries in the United Methodist Church. On a more personal note, Sarah lives in the Rocky Mountains with her husband, sons, two dogs and a turtle. She enjoys reading and writing (of course!), hiking, swimming, photography and quilting.
