THE BASICS
As a Lincoln College Online student, your computer – and any computer you can use to access the Internet – becomes your virtual classroom. All of your course lectures will be delivered completely online, and our courses are designed to maximize interactivity and appeal to a variety of learning styles through audio and visual elements.
You will receive textbooks to complete reading assignments. Your instructors will assign quizzes and tests and you will receive writing assignments, all of which you’ll complete and submit online. You will also participate in online discussions regarding course material with your classmates, and you’ll always be able to contact your instructor if you have questions or need guidance.
WORK / LIFE / SCHOOL BALANCE
We know you’re busy. You probably have a job and may very well have a family, not to mention hobbies, sports, activities and so many other things making demands on your time. You may be apprehensive about how you’ll fit college into your crowded schedule…
One of the great advantages of online learning is the level of flexibility it offers. You’ll be able to fit classes into your busy life instead of trying to work your schedule around school. Of course, you do have to meet the minimum attendance requirements for each course set by the school and the instructor. This means there are certain assignments you’ll have to complete each week by set due dates, but scheduling is flexible and mostly left up to you.
At Lincoln, you will never be required to be online and in class at set, pre-determined times of the day or days of the week, and our courses do not involve any group work or group grading. Generally, people quickly adapt to life as a Lincoln student and handle their new responsibilities without a lot of stress.
CONVENIENCE AND FLEXIBILITY
At Lincoln, we simplify our students’ lives by giving all online courses the same navigation and the same general schedule. All quizzes, tests, and other assignments are due at the same time of the week or term for all courses, independent of subject matter or instructor. It’s a routine that’s easy to get used to.
We even set up your own personal online calendar that keeps track of all of your course due dates. In addition, we ship all required textbooks straight to your door at the start of each term so you always have what you need to succeed in hand. THE DAY-TO-DAY EXPERIENCE
In every online course, students are required to complete a certain number of academic activities per week to be marked present for that week. These academic activities are due weekly, but there’s flexibility in submitting them. For example, if an assignment is due by Thursday night, you might turn it in on Monday morning where a classmate might opt to wait until Thursday afternoon due to their schedule. In both cases, the work is turned in on time.
Meeting the attendance requirements means that the student has participated sufficiently to be marked present (or in attendance) for the week. Assignments will be graded on their merit. Each assignment will be graded according to the guidelines for the course and for the individual assignment. All students will receive our complete attendance and grading policy upon enrolling.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
• Posts contributing to a threaded discussion with other students regarding class material.
• Submitting a quiz.
• Submitting a writing assignment.
• Submitting a Final Learning Assessment.
LEARN IN A VARIETY OF WAYS:
• You’ll gain knowledge and insight on your course topics through your assigned reading.
• You’ll view audio / visual lectures and participate in threaded discussions with your instructor and your students.
• Your instructors may give live demonstrations or use a virtual lightboard so that everyone can share ideas in real time.
• Your instructor may use slideshows or audio or video clips. And he or she is likely to provide links to relevant websites, photos, animation, graphs or charts.
• You might also have one-on-one chat sessions or email exchanges with your instructor depending on your individual needs.
Different instructors may use different techniques, but learning online at Lincoln is always engaging and interactive. And it’s never dull!
And remember, should you need help, your instructor is always just an email away, even on nights and weekends. He or she is there to help you succeed and you can expect a response to your questions and comments within 24 hours. The same goes for your Student Advisor, who can help in all kinds of ways and help you as you navigate through the range of services available to Lincoln College Online students.
